GABRIELE COLLETTO – In search of an Author. Contemporary faces.

​

An attentive research taking inspiration one side from the strength of the color that becomes action and on the other side from the image with its rationality and communication talent. The artistic path of Gabriele Colletto reconciles this balance managing to produce artworks that are totally original, plenty of a new and irreverent expressiveness, able anyway to make meditate, turn on questions. It’s the revenge of the image that becomes concept, a visual but also perceptive path. The scene where the artist arranges his characters becomes a theatrical fifth, always prepared to change scenery. On the scene there are the faces from a daily nature that Gabriele takes from his memory, from his creativity mixed with the strength of the color.

Intense dyes contrasting to absences; shadows games  that become essential borders to build the image; color’s explosions catching the gaze and permitting to go beyond what it is visible, to reach the more sensitive and impenetrable world that the artist himself give us.

Figures often full of irony, that become pagan divinities whom to be inspired by and to give our attention to. The whole is played with the presence of the color that becomes the essential “medium” to put this story in place. Characters beyond the time and the history who are able to represent perfectly faces and stories that we meet every day, that are part of our daily reality. Gabriele Colletto becomes a storyteller of the color. Essential, while with a few lines he spawns a memory and manages to celebrate a remembrance, a timeless silent where the spectator can trace his own noises, history or live his own fable.

Leaf through the own childhood’s album, made by faces and stories we have been part of, but we cannot remember precisely all the details, the names, but we remember the tastes, the emotions of them, that memory that has made us what we are now. It becomes then a game! This is the interpretation to approach Gabriele’s path. Being able to find in those faces the periods of our life that are built wisely by the image and recreated by the color that envelops everything.

Gabriele Colletto is aware to stage ironic, heavy but at the same time mature lives. Unique faces with an excellent capability to communicating. They are real characters who dress the part of bizarre emotions that assume the odder aspects ever. Appearances, memories, stories combined by the artist who in this way furnish and enrich our thoughts.

A long overview of faces dragging with themselves a story! Faces never empty, often nameless whom it is necessary to grow fond of in order to manage to understand them. To do that the artist shapes for us various emotions, some more noble accompanying us to more intimate emotions, others  more desecrating and morbidly true to manage to taste totally the desire of the life.

Which end have we to expect? Which message to safeguard, which emotion to hand down? Questions that nobody will manage to find proper responses, since every face, every story becomes guardian of moments of life that belong to our own identities. Identities that Gabriele transforms into contemporary actors in search of an author.

GABRIELE COLLETTO – In cerca d’autore. Facce contemporanee.

Una ricerca attenta che trae ispirazione da una parte dalla forza del colore che diventa azione, e dall'altra, dall'immagine con la sua razionalità e capacità di comunicare. Il percorso di Gabriele Colletto concilia questo equilibrio riuscendo a generare dei lavori del tutto originali carichi di una nuova ed irriverente espressività capace però di far riflettere, di accendere domande. È la rivincita dell’immagine che diventa concetto, percorso visivo ma anche percettivo.  La scena dove l’artista dispone i suoi personaggi diventa una quinta teatrale, pronta sempre a cambiare fondo. In scena volti di una quotidianità che Gabriele recupera nella sua memoria, nella sua creatività che viene miscelata dalla forza del colore.

Tinte forti che si contrappongono ad assenze; giochi di ombre che diventano essenziali confini per costruire l’immagine; esplosioni di colore che catturano lo sguardo e ci permettono di andare oltre il visibile, per approdare nel mondo più sensibile ed impenetrabile che l’artista stesso ci regala.  Ricordi che ci vengono regalati in cui possiamo perderci per brevi momenti oppure infiniti.

Figure spesso cariche di ironia, che diventano pagane divinità a cui ispirarsi, alle quali rivolgere la nostra attenzione.  Il tutto giocato con la presenza del colore che diventa “medium” essenziale per dar vita a questa storia.  Personaggi fuori dal tempo e dalla storia che hanno la capacità di rappresentare benissimo volti e storie che incontriamo tutti i giorni, che fanno parte della nostra quotidiana realtà. Gabriele Colletto diventa un cantastorie del colore. Essenziale, poiché con pochi tratti da vita ad un ricordo e riesce a celebrare una memoria, un silenzio senza tempo dove lo spettatore può rintracciare i suoi rumori, la sua storia o vivere la propria favola.

Sfogliare l’album della propria infanzia, fatto di volti e storie alle quali abbiamo preso parte, ma di cui non ricordiamo con precisione i dettagli, i nomi, ma ne ricordiamo il gusto, le emozioni, quella memoria che ci ha resi così come siamo. Diventa allora un gioco!  È questa la chiave di lettura per accostarsi al percorso di Gabriele. Riuscire a ritrovare in quei volti i tempi della nostra vita che sapientemente vengono costruiti dall'immagine e decostruiti dal colore che avvolge tutto. 

I volti diventano storie e le storie di questi volti diventano e generano nuovi “personaggi”  che vengono estrapolati dal testo più avvincente di sempre: il marciapiede delle vita. Ricordi avvincenti, oppure stanchi che vengono consegnati all'arte grazie alla forza di un segno pittorico compiuto, deciso ma nello stesso tempo ancora aperto, come se quell’immagine che osserviamo sia ancora alla ricerca del suo compimento.

Gabriele Colletto è consapevole di portare in scena vite ironiche, pensanti, ma allo stesso tempo mature. Volti unici costruiti con una capacità comunicativa eccellente. Sono personaggi reali che indossano i panni di bizzarre emozioni che assumono le sembianze più strane. Apparenze, memorie, storie combinate dalla creatività dell’artista che così facendo arreda i nostri ricordi e arricchisce il nostro pensiero.

Una lunga carrellata di facce che si trascinano dietro una storia! Facce mai vuote, spesso prive di nomi a cui bisogna affezionarsi per riuscire a comprenderla. Per fare ciò l’artista plasma per noi diverse emozioni, alcune più nobili che ci accompagnano in riflessioni più intimistiche, altre più dissacranti e morbosamente vere, per riuscire ad assaporare in pieno il desiderio della vita.

Quale finale dobbiamo aspettarci? Quale messaggio salvaguardare, quale emozione tramandare? Domande alle quali ognuno di noi riuscirà a trovare le proprie risposte, poiché ogni volto, ogni storia diventa custode di momenti di vita che appartengono alla nostra identità. Identità che Gabriele trasforma in attori contemporanei in cerca d’autore.

I don’t like to create captions to the paintings or in general artworks, they live of their own life and this can even more be applied to the Colletto’s artworks.

A few days ago , my friend and by now mature artist Gabriele Colletto has contacted me; I have not only a big esteem in him as an artist but also he has become during the years  a friend with whom exchanging ideas on Art, on itself evolution in its absence (because this is what often it is talked about) and on some women.

Gabriele starts as an excellent painter, depicting people, acquaintances  women he knows or friends whom he uses to hang out with, often they are big portraits and they apparently remain so, perfect and elegant in their own execution but when you  look into them deeply and you observe them, those portraits throught the use of the color become the testimony of the contemporary life… someone could ask “How?” and I will reply: “Look at the color,  the passage of the paint and the superb contemporary acidity”, they remind in a way the digital flier of the futuristic movies, as “BLADE RUNNER” or “THE FIFTH ELEMENT” of L. Besson.

Colletto with his pictorial cleanliness becomes witness of an escaping reality, a reality that wears itself out with the speed of a file transfer.

For sure as every respectable artist, his work evolves and wonders about more concrete questions, sometimes it becomes fragmented painting, sometimes it becomes cultured painting that has nothing to do with the Citazionismo of the 80ies, but is a painting that decontextualize and makes to relive the big and enigmatic characters of the artwork history or of the past pop or photographic culture.

These characters or entities (the second term suits likely more) live suspended in a kind of scenario/dimension of the absence, without wondering questions, they just live, suspended in a temporal bond between the abstract desire and the shape existence.

Non mi piace creare didascalie per i dipinti o per le opere d'arte in genere, esse hanno vita propria, e a maggior ragione questo vale per l'opera di Colletto.

Qualche giorno fa sono stato contattato dal mio amico e ormai maturo

artista di grande talento Gabriele Colletto, che non solo è un artista di cui nutro una grande stima , ma nel corso di questi anni è diventato un amico con cui si interscambiano idee sull'arte, sull'evoluzione della stessa nella sua assenza (perché spesso di questo si parla), e di qualche donna. 

Gabriele parte come ottimo pittore che ritrae persone, conoscenti, donne che conosce o amici che frequenta, spesso sono dei grandi ritratti e apparentemente restano tali, perfetti ed eleganti nella loro esecuzione, ma se si guardano e si osservano bene quei ritratti attraverso l'uso del colore diventano testimonianza della vita contemporanea...qualcuno dirà come? E io risponderò: "osservate il colore, la stesura e la superba acidità contemporanea" esse ricordano in qualche modo le locandine digitali dei film avveniristici, come BLADE RUNNER" o " IL QUINTO ELEMENTO" di L. Besson. 

Colletto nella sua pulizia pittorica diventa testimone di una realtà che ci sfugge di mano, una realtà che si consuma con la stessa velocità con cui si trasferisce un file.

Ovviamente come ogni artista che si rispetti, il suo lavoro evolve e si pone delle domande più concrete, essa a volte diventa pittura disgregata e a volte diventa pittura colta che non ha nulla a che vedere con quello che fu il citazionismo degli anni ottanta, ma una pittura che decontestualizza e fa rivivere i grandi ed enigmatici personaggi della storia dell'arte o della cultura pop o fotografica del passato.

Questi personaggi o entità (forse il secondo termine si addice di più ) vivono sospesi in una sorta di paesaggio/dimensione dell'assenza, non si pongono domande, vivono e basta, sospesi in un vincolo temporale che va tra il desiderio astratto e l'esistenza della forma.
